Remove A Kohler Shower Handle

Remove a Kohler Shower Handle

Kohler makes many styles of faucet handles to match just about any decor. When you need to replace or repair parts inside the shower faucet, you need to remove the handle. Although Kohler shower handles come in a variety of shapes and designs, they all come off in a similar way.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply to your shower before removing the faucet handle. The shut-off valve is behind the wall. Access to bathtub plumbing typically is in an adjacent room or closet.

2. Look at the center of your faucet handle. Many Kohler shower faucet handles have a decorative cover in the center of the handle covering the securing screw. On Kohler cross handles and some others, the center cover will resemble an eight-sided nut.

3. Remove the decorative cover by turning the cover counter-clockwise until it unlocks from the tab in the handle. Pull the cover off and remove the O-ring that sits around the faucet stem.

4. Remove the screw in the center of the handle with a Philips head screwdriver. Pull the handle off the faucet stem. If you have a lever-style handle, your securing screw will be under the handle toward the wall. Remove the securing screw with an Allen wrench, and pull the faucet handle from the stem.

5. Remove the faucet sleeve by twisting the sleeve counter-clockwise to unlock the tabs. Pull the sleeve away from the faucet stem. This will reveal the stem and cartridge for your shower faucet.
