Loosen The Ball Assembly On A Faucet

Loosen a roller ball faucet by loosening the adjusting collar.

There are four main types of faucets--disc faucets, sleeve cartridge faucets, stem faucets and rotating ball faucets. Rotating ball faucets consist of a single handle sitting on a ball assembly. When you lift the faucet, the ball rotates and controls the water flow and temperature. If the adjusting collar on a rotating ball faucet is screwed on too tightly, the faucet handle will be difficult to move. Loosen the adjusting collar slightly, making the faucet easier to move while still preventing leaks.

Instructions

1. Loosen the screw at the base of the bottom side of the faucet with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the faucet by gently pulling it toward you and down.

2. Loosen the adjustment collar of the faucet, using the spanner end of a spanner/hex wrench. The adjustment collar is the round piece you exposed when you removed the faucet.

3. Slide the faucet back onto its stem.

4. Secure the faucet onto the stem with the Phillips screwdriver and the screw you removed earlier.

5. Test the roller ball faucet to see if you have loosened the adjustment collar enough so that the faucet moves easily, but not enough so that it leaks. Make any adjustments necessary.

Tips Warnings

It's not necessary to turn off the water supply to loosen the adjustment collar, but turn the supply off if you're removing the collar.
