Some of Hewlett Packard's scanners come in a flat bed configuration, meaning they have a large lid you can lift to place materials to be scanned directly onto the scanning glass. Some of these flat bed scanners come equipped with a TMA, or transparent media adapter, that allows the scanner to scan photo negatives, slides or other transparent materials. The scanner uses a light inside the lid to illuminate the materials so they can be scanned effectively, allowing you to preserve images directly from the photo negative strips.
Instructions
1. Turn on the scanner and the attached computer. Click on the Start button on the computer's desktop, then select Programs, click on the HP folder and click on HP Photo and Imaging Director.
2. Click on the icon for the scanner you are using and then click on the Scan Picture button. Select Negatives from a Transparent Material Adapter and wait for the scanner's TMA light to illuminate.
3. Open the scanner's lid and pull on the transparent media adapter's tab, located on the inside of the lid, to remove the negative strip holder. Insert the photo negatives into the holder so the shiny side faces the scanning glass.
4. Reinsert the negative strip holder into the transparent media adapter, being careful to not bend the negatives. Close the scanner's lid, then click on Scan on the computer's screen.
5. Click on the scan of each negative in the strip and use the mouse to expand or contract the cropping box around it. Click Accept after you have made your adjustments to the scan, then choose where on the computer you want to save the scan files.
