Garbage disposals are darlings of the kitchen: mechanical omnivores with an insatiable appetite for your unwanted food. With the flip of a switch, the leftover scraps are instantly ground up and soon forgotten---unless of course some seemingly innocuous chunk goes down with a fight and clogs your disposal's motor. Should your Badger 5 garbage disposal suddenly stop working, follow these simple troubleshooting tips before calling the neighborhood plumber.

Troubleshoot a Badger 5 Garbage Disposal
1. Unplug your Badger 5 garbage disposal and turn off the water before troubleshooting. If the machine is hardwired to the home's electrical system, trip the circuit breaker or remove the fuse sending it power.
2. Insert a wrenchette, a small wrench, into the hole on the bottom of the Badger 5. Turn counterclockwise until one full rotation is completed. Remove the wrenchette.
3. Place long tongs or pliers into the disposal and remove the dislodged object.
4. Depress the reset button on the bottom of the disposal after allowing the motor to cool for three to five minutes.
5. Turn on the water and the disposal. If the disposal still fails to work, check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses.
Tips Warnings
If you experience difficulties turning the wrenchette counterclockwise, use your tongs or pliers to reach in and move the disposal blades back and forth to help dislodge the obstruction and try again.
Never put your fingers or hands inside the disposal.
