fyi roach sound deterrent plug-ins stink

We live in a duplex suite. One wall is shared (like in a duplex) and there is also a door between the two sections (like in a hotel suite). We keep our section real tidy, no food left out, minimal clutter while they're section is nothing short of a sesspool (food left out overnight, cluttered, rarely (if ever) cleaned up, you get the idea). As luck would have it, I never see any roaches when I go over to their section but I'll consistently see one or two (sometimes more) in the bathroom, dining room, and kitchen in our section. So I went to homedepot and bout a 3-pack of plug in units that you plug into the electrical outlet and it drives off roaches and other vermin I plugged them all in and left to go work out and then drink some whiskey. When I came back a few hours later, saw a roach in the kitchen and another smaller roach in the bathroom. The one in the bathroom had the audacity to park himself no less than two feet away from the same unit that's supposed to drive him away If you're looking for a roach solution, I can't recommend the electrical plug ins, hope this saves someone a few bucks and a trip -MC The EPA and Consumer Reports state that there is no scientific evidence to support the efficacy of the sonic devices. Manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank. For roach control, you need a bait. It gets carried back to the colony. There are many commercial baits available such as Advance, MaxForce, and others. Borate powders are effective baits. Commercial brands include Borid, Roach Prufe and others. The powder is puffed into cracks and crevices along baseboards, around door and window frames, under stove and refridgerator, inside electrical switch and outlet boxes, around shelves, sinks, and cabinets, and anywhere a roach could hide. When living in a multi-family housing unit, you are subject to whatever bugs they may bring in or encourage. If renting, you can contact you landlord. Many have monthly exterminator agreements for treatment of interior and exterior of dwellings. If you have to DIY, you can effectively control insects in your rental unit. Take care to treat the threshold of the adjoining door and all around it and along baseboards and inside outlet and switch boxes on the shared wall. Here in Las Vegas, we use glass jars with a bit of wet coffee grounds in the bottom. Place it next to a wall. Roaches climb the wall and go into the jar, but can't climb out. I place several small test jars around my house. Then concentrate them where I have had success in trapping them. It has proved very effective for keeping these bugs outside. Also I sprinkle Boric Acid at the base of my doorways. The creatures are a godsend to exterminators here. The boric acid mentioned by Westnlas might be a great solution for you . http://alsnetbiz.com/homeimprovement/boric_acid.html Newt I recently had a very serious roach infestation problem. Living in the country my home became a haven for all types of insects. Although I keep my home relatively clean, I still encountered a number of roaches around the house. Having a 8 year old child, going to school and work, hinders me from keeping a tab on where the problem is coming from. Two weeks ago I purchased a product call Raid Egg Stopper. The box comes with 12 roach baits and 3 egg stoppers. I placed an egg stopper in the kitchen and both bathrooms. The baits was strategically place throughout the remainder of the house. Within a week I started seeing the carcasses of roaches all over. I purchased another box the next week and placed the egg stoppers in the bedrooms. To my suprise my infestation problem went from seeing numerous roaches when I turn on the lights to seeing one or two (maybe). I recommend anyone that is having a problem with roaches to purchase this product. It may be a little costly (around $9.00) but it is well worth it. One problem that I do find is that this product is not sold everywhere. I purchased this item at Walmart SuperCenter, but cannot find it in the hardware stores or local grocery store.
