Global Positioning Systems devices, commonly referred to as GPS devices, help the direction impaired get where they need to go. TomTom is one brand of GPS device that offers mobile units. A mobile GPS device can be used in a car or carried with a person on foot. Sometimes street names change, or errors are found on current TomTom maps, so keeping your GPS device updated is important.
Instructions
Manual Map Updates
1. Go to the main menu of your device and select Map corrections.
2. Choose Correct a map error and choose the type of correction you want to make from the list of available options, including Block/Unblock Street and Edit Street Name.
3. Locate the place that you want to update by manually entering the street name or having the device list streets near your current location. Once you have found the correct location to be updated, select Done.
4. Enter the updated information and select Update Now.
Automatic Map Updates
5. Tap Map Corrections from the main menu.
6. Select Correction Preferences and check the box next to each type of update you want to receive. Available updates include street name corrections and additional points of interest.
7. Connect your device to a computer with an Internet connection. The first time you connect, the TomTom Home program will download to your computer before updates are made. Each time thereafter, updates will automatically begin immediately upon connection to a computer with Internet access turned on.
