The Duties Of Costco Refund Cashiers

Costco is a membership warehouse club that opened its first location in San Diego, California, in 1976, and now has more than 500 warehouses throughout the world. Costco is the third-largest retailer in the United States and the ninth-largest retailer in the world, serving more than 8.5 million members per year. Costco has many job opportunities, including as a refund cashier, a position that has a number of duties and responsibilities.


Responsibilities


Costco refund cashiers have responsibilities that include researching returned merchandise for item number, past and current price, and warranty information; issuing refunds by cash, credit card or Costco cash card; correcting errors made at the cash register for members and refunding or collecting the difference; filling out forms for watch and jewelry repair; helping process membership signups, renewals, replacement cards and credit applications; ensuring the cash balance in the register at sign-on and sign-off; assisting other departments as necessary; and providing courteous service to all members, colleagues and warehouse suppliers.


Requirements


In order to be considered for the position of refund cashier, applicants should be able to articulate verbal and written information in a clear manner and exhibit effective listening skills. Applicants should have a professional demeanor, be willing to help other employees and be quick to identify and resolve problems. Applicants should also be self-motivated, well-organized team players with the ability to multitask while complying with all necessary practices and procedures required of the job.


Education and Experience


Applicants for the position of refund cashier at Costco must have a high school diploma or GED. They must also have experience in membership, cashier or customer service, or have previous experience in a position closely related to this one.


Skills, Certificates and Licenses


Applicants for the position of Costco refund cashier should have AS400 computer skills and basic math knowledge. Certificates and license requirements include Hazmat Module 1 (fundamentals of shipping hazardous material) certification, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act certification.
