Butchers wax and bowling alley wax

butchers wax and bowling alley wax?

The house we have has solid oak floors throughout, they are in pretty good shape a few scratches but they just dont have the shine. I was looking up woodfloor care on the net and I keep seeing about butchers wax or bowling alley wax for the floor. Is this a good idea or is there somthing better. We can not have them sanded and refinished it is not in our budget. thanks are you sure they currently have a wax finish on them? or is it polyurethane? if you aren't sure, put a couple drops of water in an inconspicuous area let them sit there for 10 minutes. if, after 10 minutes, there are white spots remaining after you wipe up the water, you've got wax. if not, you've got poly. the steps you can take to shine up your floor depend on what finish is there now. post back with what you've got..... put the water drops on the floor and waited. When I wiped it up it just left a slight stain that came up with a harder rub. that doesn't sound like wax then, does it? to be sure, try this: take a coin (in an inconsipicuous spot) see if you can scratch off any wax from the surface. if nothing flakes up, you've definitely got polyurethane. did the flake test, somthing came off a real fine something that when put on my finger looked like a real fine glitter. That is polyurethane you scraped off. I wouldn't wax them.
