cat litter clogged toilet

I tried to flush scoopable Fresh step clay (non flushable ) cat litter down the toilet. This was a bad idea. I have tried a plunger, draino (which by my understanding is mainly for organic clogs) and now I am trying salt. But so far nothing seems to help. I am afraid the pipes are clogged. I bought a plumbers snake designed for the toilet for $9 at home depot and unclogged it for her. Keep in mind: (1) you want to push the clog farther down the drain, not pull it toward you. (2) Pass the coil of the snake past the clog entirely, then work it back into the cat litter by yanking it (no cranking) until it is stuck. (3) Push and crank as hard as you can. This will take a chunk off the back and send it on its way. (4) Repeat until the water goes down. It was a lot of work. The consistency was a lot like play-doh and it just took a lot of work, but did finally go down. Even though you think you are not making progress (because the clay-like clog keeps filling in where you've been loosening it), you are. Stick with it and save yourself the $100 which a plumber would charge. Welcome to the forums! Good advice. Who in their right mind would flush expandable cat litter down a toilet, knowing the main purpose is to absorb water? Makes the world go 'round. Let's hope it's open after 4 and a half years. The only reason to flush kitty litter is if you have no trash pickup and can't go outside to a yard.In other words don't do it.
