The first Pippi Longstocking chapter book, Pippi Longstocking, was published in 1945.
Pippi Longstocking is the main character from Astrid Lindgren's childhood book series including Pippi Longstocking. Dress up like the girl from Villa Villekulla with her mismatched knee socks and freckled face. Her signature feature -- red hair in two braids that stand out from each side of her head -- is a necessity to your Pippi-style outfit. You can wear this ensemble as a Halloween costume or dress like Pippi for a book report presentation.
Instructions
1. Dye your hair red or spray a temporary red hair dye on your hair.
2. Cut two pieces of wire using wire cutters so the pieces are longer than the length of your hair; you can trim off excess wire after you are finished with the braids so make the wire longer than necessary rather than too short. Wrap the end of one of the wires around one of the pointed tips of a red headband. Repeat with the other wire on the other side of the headband.
3. Place the headband on your head. Divide the hair behind the headband down the middle of your scalp so you have two equal sections.
4. Pull the hair on the left side of your head up to the wire sticking out from the headband. Divide the hair into three sections and hold one section of hair with the wire. Braid the hair with the wire included. Tie a short piece of yarn around the end of the braid to hold it secure. Repeat this braid on the right side of your head.
5. Dot your cheeks with a brown eyeliner pencil to create freckles.
6. Wear an old T-shirt, preferably one with holes and stains. Slip on a short jumper dress over the T-shirt, or wear a pair of overall shorts instead. Slip a mismatched knee-high sock on each foot, preferably printed with holes, and wear a pair of military boots unlaced on your feet.
7. Attach a small stuffed monkey to your shoulder using hot glue.
