Paliperidone or Invega is a prescription medication used to treat schizophrenia. Despite its effectiveness, Invega is not for everyone as it presents several risks for side effects and complications in some patients.

Approximately 37 percent of patients experience side effects while taking Invega.
Types of Side Effects
The most common side effects of Invega include headaches, drowsiness, rapid heartbeat, dizziness and tremors.
Time Frame
Side effects of Invega typically begin within the first six weeks of treatment and gradually subside once your body becomes acclimated to the drug.
Risks
Use of Invega poses a risk for serious medical conditions, such as symptoms similar to Parkinson's Disease, diabetes mellitus, breast cancer, gastrointestinal obstructions, sudden drops in blood pressure, hyperthermia and seizures.
Warning
Because it frequently causes sudden death in such patients, Invega is not used for the treatment of dementia in patients over the age of 65. The drug also has the potential to cause a life-threatening condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome and suicidal thoughts or actions.
