Treat Psoriasis Of The Scalp

Scalp psoriasis is a skin disorder and very common. More than half of all people suffering from psoriasis have it on their scalp. Red lesions covered with scale are on the scalp when skin cells grow too fast. Scalp psoriasis can be mild to very severe but you can treat the symptoms and the condition.

Instructions

1. Try some of the tar products. There are two types of tar, coal and wood. You can usually find these products over the counter. These products come in shampoos, gels, creams, oils, and soaps.

2. Use an Ultraviolet light for scalp treatment, there are a couple of different models to choose from. Natural sunlight will help too but only if you have a shaved head or your hair is thin and the UV rays can reach your scalp.

3. Apply Tazorac to your scalp in the evening before going to bed. It is a topical vitamin A and it comes in a cream or gel. Leave this treatment on overnight and thoroughly wash your scalp in the morning.

4. See your doctor if these over the counter products and the ultraviolet light does not help. There are a number of other options that he may suggest and want to try.

5. Prescribed drugs include topical steroids. These come in many forms such as, creams, gels, sprays, lotions, ointments and foams. Do not use steroids for a prolonged period of time and do not stop taking them abruptly. Treatment is typically two weeks.

6. Injected scalp steroids is another possible option. When scalp psoriasis is mild and only involves a few areas your doctor may choose this treatment.
