Increase The Brain'S Processing Speed

The fast-paced world requires people to always be thinking quickly. Whether crunching numbers at work, filing taxes or figuring out the best bargain at the grocery store, brain power is beneficial in all aspects of life. Some nutritional supplements claim to do this, but there are lots of cost free or natural ways to increase the brain's processing speed.

Instructions

1. Drink more water. Your brain, like the rest of your body, is made up mostly of water. Keeping it hydrated will make it function faster and more effectively. Drink at least eight glasses of water throughout the day. Skip drinks with lots of sugar or caffeine, as these additives can slow down your brain's processing power instead of boosting it.

2. Limit your alcohol intake. Drinking a lot of alcohol will dehydrate your body and brain, leaving you feeling sluggish and making it difficult to think clearly. Excess alcohol also completely kills brain cells. The fewer functioning brain cells you have, the slower your brain's processing speed, so keep your drinking to a minimum.

3. Eat more fish. Fish contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, which help nerve cells fire faster, reduce cholesterol and are good for your heart. Eat tuna, salmon, anchovies or sardines at least twice a week. If fish doesn't fit in your diet, take a daily omega 3 fish oil supplement to help your brain instead.

4. Follow a healthy diet. Eating a balanced diet full of whole grains and vegetables will benefit your whole body, including your brain. Include whole grains, lean proteins and dark greens in your daily meals. Foods like spinach and blueberries are high in antioxidants, which increase brain speed.

5. Make yourself remember. Basic memorization exercises and logic puzzles will keep your brain sharp and processing information quickly. Pick ten objects in your home or office and memorize the name, color and location of each one in order. Repeat information about new people you meet until you have it memorized. There are dozens of logic puzzle books available to help increase your cognitive ability, too.
