Use Incense Burners

Select incense with pleasing aromas.

Incense contributes to a relaxing environment with pleasurable aromas, such as gardenia flowers, sandalwood and strawberries. Often used as a form of aromatherapy, incense is also burned during spiritual and religious rituals around the world. Place loose incense or cones inside incense censers for bedrooms and bathrooms. Select incense sticks and boat burners to burn incense in open areas of the home.

Instructions

1. Place the incense burner in the desired location of the home. Remove one incense stick or cone from the package.

2. Insert the reed end of an incense stick in the hole at the end of the boat burner, suspending the incense stick. A boat burner is a wooden incense holder that catches the ash as the incense burns. Light the incense tip of the stick with a lighter. Once the incense stick begins glowing, blow out the flame.

3. Open cone burners and censers by removing or lifting the top of the burner. Place one incense cone inside the cone burner or censer, and light the top of the cone with a lighter. Wait for two minutes to ensure the cone has lighted properly. Then place the top back on the burner.

4. Burn loose incense inside bowl burners and censers. Pour two inches of sand into the bowl or censer, and shape the sand into a cone with your fingers. Place a charcoal tablet over the top of the sand cone and light the corner of the tablet with a lighter.

5. Leave the charcoal tablet to burn for five minutes. After the tablet has turned gray, sprinkle ¼ tsp. of loose incense, such as incense resin, over the surface of the hot charcoal tablet. The incense will slowly begin to burn.

6. Clean the residue from the incense burner with a moist paper towel after use. Let the burner air dry after cleaning.
