Natural Acne Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes redness around the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead area ("T-zone") and produces small, red, pus-filled bumps or pastules. When acne is present with rosacea it is referred to as acne rosacea. Acne rosacea is more common among adults than teenagers. As the cause of rosacea is unknown, there is no way to prevent it. There are, however, natural ways to treat acne rosacea to reduce redness and eruptions.


Caring for your Skin


Wash twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Avoid rubbing your face, as friction with the skin can also cause reddening and flareups. Choose facial products without alcohol because it dries out the skin, upsetting the natural pH balance.


After washing, gently apply oil-free sunscreen or moisturizer to your face to keep the skin from having to over-produce sebum to maintain its natural moisture. Using a broad-spectrum (UVA, UVB and infrared rays) sunscreen marked SPF 15 or higher will protect your skin against the harmful effects of the sun. When using a topical medication, use the moisturizer after the medication has dried. Also use noncomedogenic facial products because these do not clog pores.


Lifestyle Changes


Summer heat and winter cold can aggravate rosacea. In the summer, wear a sunshade or use an umbrella. In the winter, protect your face with a scarf or ski mask and do not sit directly in front of a heater.


For those who wear makeup, green- or yellow-tinted foundation creams and powders cover redness.


Avoid drinking alcohol.


Treating Acne Rosacea Naturally


To reduce redness caused by acne rosacea, the skin needs to stay cool and calm. Applying cucumber juice or pulp directly to the skin helps soothe redness and provides the skin with a cooling effect. Also drinking cucumber juice or eating it raw will aid in the release of heat and allow the skin to heal.


Licorice is a prime herb used in treating rosacea. Licorice reduces inflammation and soothes irritation, thereby reducing redness. Licorice provides the added benefit of stimulating the adrenal gland to remove the bacteria that causes rosacea bumps. Apply licorice extract topically to the skin. Mix 2 drops of licorice extract with 1 tsp. of a carrier oil such as almond or olive oil.








Washing the face with oatmeal and ginger relieves itching and reduces inflammation and redness. Oatmeal absorbs oil and soothes the skin, while ginger's natural antibiotic properties kill acne- and redness-causing bacteria.


Green tea has antioxidant properties that fight against free radicals, keeping the skin calm. Drinking green tea provides the antioxidant benefits, while applying green tea directly to the skin helps soothe and calm it.


Colloidal silver is used to treat acne rosacea as it is known for its bacteria-killing properties and ability to balance homone levels. Colloidal silver is available for oral and topical uses.








Emu oil has anti-inflammatory and healing properties due to its essential fatty acid content. The oil is noncomedogenic, so it will not clog pores. Apply directly, using a cotton ball, and let the oil penetrate into the skin.


Oregano oil kills the bacteria that causes acne and contributes to rosacea. Oregano oil capsules can be taken twice a day and a topical oregano cream can be applied at night to speed results.
