Treat Colic Using Chiropractic Techniques

Treat Colic Using Chiropractic Techniques

Colic is inconsolable crying that has no known cause. Babies go through a lot of physical contortion on their way out of the birth canal that can cause misalignment of the neck and back vertebrae. Parents may be nervous at the thought of taking their newborn baby to a chiropractor, but gentle chiropractic techniques can be used successfully to treat colic.

Instructions

1. Call your medical insurance and find out if chiropractic services are covered. If so, get a list of preferred providers and start calling around. Ask for referrals from your pediatrician or other people who are familiar with chiropractic care. If your insurance does not cover chiropractic, many chiropractors will offer a reasonable fee for adjustments.

2. Find a chiropractor who has experience in doing chiropractic adjustments on newborns. Adjustments on newborns are gentle and use a lot of massage and trigger point therapy.

3. Bring a favorite blanket or something soft and familiar for the baby to lay on during the adjustment. This will help the baby and you feel more at ease. The chiropractor should let you touch the baby or be nearby during the adjustment.

4. Get adjustments on a regular basis. Most adjustments last for a few days or weeks, but your baby will tell you if they need another adjustment when the screaming begins again. Talk with your chiropractor to determine the optimal schedule of adjustments.
