Avoid Illnesses While Travelling

Traveling can be an enjoyable experience, but it can also prove to be a nightmare if you become sick. Here's a guide to avoiding common ailments.

Instructions

1. Make sure you have had your shots and are in the most optimal health before you go on any trip. When you go to a foreign place, no matter how clean it is, you can become prey to numerous bacteria in the air, water and food that your body is not used to combating.

2. Carry a hand sanitizer. Sometimes your biggest enemy is yourself! Try to wash your hands and shower as much as possible.

3. Avoid eating raw vegetables or anything of that nature when you order food. If you buy fruit or vegetables from a grocer, clean them with iodine. It's also best to avoid foods that might be too spicy if you have a weak stomach.

4. Get good rest. Avoid overstraining your body, and have fun in moderation. Don't get too stressed if things don't go your way. Believe it or not, that can make a huge difference. Jet lag is also a huge cause of sickness, so remember to take things easy the first day or so. Make sure that if you are walking long distances, you have good shoes that will allow you the most comfort.

5. Don't eat anything on the street that is likely to be contaminated with bacteria. This doesn't mean you have to eat in expensive restaurants, but proceed with caution when encountering foods that might be questionable. Make sure your food is not left exposed for large periods of time because it can be contaminated by flies and other animals. It is also very important to drink bottled water or soda instead of water from the tap.

6. Always carry mosquito repellent with you, and remember to apply it at all times. Mosquito bites can cause harmful diseases and can be a huge problem.
