Use Pressure Points To Diagnose Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread muscle pain and overwhelming fatigue. Doctors usually detect fibromyalgia by palpating pressure points. There are 18 fibromyalgia pressure points, or tender points, located throughout the body. You may be diagnosed with fibromyalgia if you have pain in 11 of the 18 points.

Instructions

1. Locate the points in your neck area that are fibromyalgia pressure points. Two points are on each side of the base of your skull where the skull meets the neck muscles. Two are in the front of your neck between the fifth and seventh vertebrae. Locate your first vertebra, count down to the fifth and move your hand around to the front of your neck to find the points.

2. Find the points in your shoulder, upper back and chest area. There are points on each side of the back at the midpoint of the upper trapezius border. Two more are just behind the scapula on each side of the body. Other points are the area where the second rib meets the breastbone.

3. Press the point on the outside of your arm just above the elbow.

4. Feel the inside of your knee, just above the joint.

5. Pinpoint the tender points in the hip area. They are in the upper part of the buttocks on the outside and the middle of the hip area on the outside.

6. Apply pressure to each point. The pressure should be enough to make your skin or fingernail turn white. Write down any area that is painful when you apply pressure.
