Natural Remedy For Menopause Aches & Pains

Menopause is a condition that all women experience marking the end of their reproductive period. Symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, depression and headaches. There are many natural remedies that may relieve the aches and pains of menopause.

About

There are three stages in natural menopause: perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. Perimenopause can begin a few years before menopause occurs, and this is when the ovaries start to produce less estrogen. Menopause occurs when a woman has received her last menstrual period and the ovaries stop producing eggs. A diagnosis of menopause occurs when a woman hasn't had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. Post-menopause is the time after menopause when the symptoms of menopause ease for most women.

Natural Remedies

While there are many herbs and plants that are said to help with menopause, many of them have not been studied in detail to determine whether they do, in fact, relieve symptoms of menopause.

Black cohosh is an herb that has been used to treat night sweats and hot flashes. Using 10 to 15 drops a day has been helpful in relieving the aches and pains of menopause.

Licorice root is an herb believed to reduce estrogen while increasing progesterone. Take 1 tsp. daily to help with abdominal pain of menopause.

Take a glass of milk and boil 1 tsp. of carrot seeds in it for 10 minutes. Drink this mixture daily to help soothe the aches and pains of menopause.

Motherwort is another herb that has been used to lessen the frequency of hot flashes. Take 15 to 20 drops of motherwort a few times a day. Do this for at least three months to see a result.

Dong quai is a Chinese herb that regulates the levels of estrogen in the body and increases blood flow, which reduces hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Dong quai can be taken in pill form (400 mg recommended daily) or steeped to make a tea.

The essential oils basil and thyme can be used as instant relief anytime a hot flash strikes. Simply place a few drops of either oil on a tissue or cotton ball. Put it in a plastic bag and when a hot flash is starting to occur, open the bag and inhale.

To prevent dryness in the vagina due to menopause, mix 1 oz. of almond oil, two drops of geranium oil and one Vitamin E capsule. Apply this mixture daily to the inside and outside of the vagina to prevent dryness.

Daily exercise has been known to relieve symptoms of menopause. Take up a sport that gets your heart pumping and this will greatly help with insomnia and mood swings.

If your symptoms get worse, you may need to visit a doctor to make sure there is not a more serious problem.
