Suntheanine Benefits

Green tea is a main source of Suntheanine.

Suntheanine is the promotional patented name for Taiyo America Inc.'s pure form L-theanine amino acid, which is found nearly exclusively in green tea. Green tea, the main source of Suntheanine, is widely used today with substantial benefits. Since ancient times man has used herbs, roots and various plants to make teas as medicine for physical and mental ailments, and the use of dietary supplements such as green tea is increasing.

Mental Alertness

Clinical trials suggest that an amount of between 50 to 200 mg of Suntheanine stimulates alpha waves (brain activity), which are identified with a calm but alert mental state. Because Suntheanine is absorbed through the large intestine and transported directly to the brain, it stimulates alpha brain waves, which are "emitted" once we have finished an activity and have stopped to rest. Suntheanine encourages the activity of neurotransmitters, which help regulate attention, learning, mood, memory, body temperature, appetite and sleep. All of these are enhanced by the presence of Suntheanine in our bodies. And the substance also may heighten our mental acuity and support our immune system.

Stress Relief

Suntheanine may promote stress relief.

Suntheanine is believed to promote stress relief while providing calm and relaxation similar to deep meditation. A completely natural substance, Suntheanine does not produce the undesirable side effects produced by synthetic drugs such as fatigue and drowsiness.

Offsets Caffeine Effects

Suntheanine has shown promise in offsetting the negative side effects of ephedrine and caffeine. Testing on mice indicated that Suntheanine effectively decreased the jittery motor activity produced by low doses of caffeine. Additionally, the substance has proved effective in lowering the sleep disturbance generally associated with using caffeine.

Effective Against PMS

Suntheanine reduces the major symptoms reported with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Clinical trials found that 200 mg of Suntheanine daily resulted in markedly reduced physical, social and mental PMS symptoms such as irritability, cramps, depression, anxiety, muscle stiffness and insomnia.

Anticancer Drug Enhancement

Suntheanine also may enhance the anti-tumor activity of such anticancer drugs as doxorubicin, idarubicin and adriamycin.

Mice with ovarian sarcoma injected with adriamycin alone did not exhibit tumor weight reduction. When the mice were injected with a combination of adriamycin and Suntheanine, tumor weight was reduced by 62%. It was determined that Suntheanine increased adriamycin concentration in the tumors, but decreased adriamycin concentration in healthy tissues, exhibiting its effectiveness in clinical chemotherapy.
