Home Remedies For Flea Prevention

Fleas are not only an annoyance but also a danger to you and your pets. They can quickly multiply and cause your pets to become anemic. Their bites will leave you and your pet feeling very itchy. You want to prevent fleas from ever attaching themselves to you or your pet because once they enter your home it will be very hard to get rid of them as they can live in your carpet and furniture.

Aromatherapy

Mix lavender and cedarwood essential oils with almond carrier oil. Rub this mixture into your pet's skin to repel the fleas. You can also make your own flea collar by rubbing a cloth color with eucalyptus, citronella or lavender essential oil.

Garlic

Garlic is not safe for pets to ingest because too much garlic can be toxic and what amount is too much is unknown. However, you can consume foods containing garlic or take garlic supplements in an effort to ward off fleas. When you consume garlic the smell of it seeps out of the small pores in your skin, a smell unappetizing to fleas.

Borax

Sprinkle borax on your carpet and let it sit for a few days before vacuuming it up. You can also sprinkle borax around the perimeter of your lawn to keep fleas out.

Lemon

Boil a pot of water with some cut up lemon or lime in it. Let the mixture sit overnight before pouring it into a water bottle to spray on a pet or sponging it onto you and your children to keep fleas away.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix one part water with one part apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray your pet with this mixture before taking them outside to prevent fleas from making their home on your pet.
