Home Remedy For Stubborn Chest Congestion

Hot tea

Stubborn chest congestion is nothing to take lightly. It restricts your breathing, giving your body less-than-ideal amounts of oxygen. It can also be a sign of pneumonia or other ailments, including HIV. If your chest congestion persists for more than a few days or you have a fever or cough up blood (even a little), go to the doctor to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Steam

Steam will help loosen up the mucus and make it easier to breathe. A hot and steamy shower may just do the trick to make you feel better. However, for stubborn chest congestion, you may have to bring out the humidifier. Keep it on and near you at all times. Take a towel and lay it over your head and shoulders. Lean over the humidifier to create a little self-made sauna. Do this for about 15 to 20 minutes three or four times a day.

Herbs

Turmeric is a popular choice for relieving chest congestion. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of warm water. Drink this mixture three times a day.

Ginger also is used to relieve chest congestion. While it can be mixed with warm water, use honey or lime juice instead for stubborn congestion. Mix one teaspoon of ginger juice with either one teaspoon of lime juice or honey and drink it. Do this three times per day.

Grandma's Remedies

Drink hot tea. It will help loosen up your sinuses and your chest congestion. Don't forget the chicken noodle soup or other broth-based soup. Besides helping with that stubborn congestion, it will help nourish your body. Drink lots of fluids, ideally 10 glasses of water, which also will help with the chest congestion. Avoid dairy products, especially milk, which can thicken the mucus. Finally, get lots of rest and allow your body to use its energy to get you better, not to conduct a normal day.
