Cure Muscle Tension

Stress has negative side effects on nearly every part of the body. Many people carry excess stress and tension in their muscles, especially around the back and neck. Injuries and pulled muscles can also contribute to tension in the muscles of the back, shoulders or neck. If you are suffering from muscle tension, there are many options available to help reduce the pain and loosen your muscles. Combining multiple techniques to target both the stress and the muscles will result in the fastest results.

Instructions

1. Breathe deeply. When you start to feel stressed or frustrated, use deep breathing techniques to help you relax. The faster you can help remove yourself from the source of stress, the more likely you will be to avoid muscle tension.

2. Listen to music. Everyone has a favorite song or band that makes them feel relaxed. If you find yourself with back tension that is making it difficult to try other treatments, simply distracting yourself with your favorite music may help you release the stress long enough to relax your muscles.

3. Go for a run, try yoga or swim. Exercise has been shown to help eliminate stress and loosen muscles. Go for a long walk or jog. Make sure to stretch after you work out.

4. Get a massage. One of the most direct ways to cure muscle tension is to see a professional massage therapist. Find a licensed massage therapist that you trust and feel comfortable with.

5. Take a hot shower or bath. Though heat from a heating pad will help your muscles relax, taking a hot shower or bath will increase the effects. Increase your tension relief by making it a bubble bath.

6. Relax in a hot tub. The heated jets will help your muscles release the tension they are holding and the time spent in a hot tub will help you relax and ease tension.
