Information Lipozene

People all over the United States strive to be thinner and healthier. As the weight loss trend continues, so does the never-ending supply of weight loss supplements, diets and new exercise technology. Lipozene is a natural supplement released in early 2006 by the Obesity Research Institute that has since become a popular supplement for those striving to lose weight.

Description

Lipozene, also known as glucomannan, is a natural fiber that originated in Asia and comes from the konjac root. In parts of the Orient, glucomannan is used for skin care and as a thickening agent for cooking. Clinical studies have found Lipozene to be beneficial in patients with diabetes for improving lipid counts and lowering blood sugar. Although Lipozene has not yet been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it can be bought without a prescription at many local pharmacies and health food stores nationwide.

Function

As a water-soluble fiber, Lipozene absorbs water and swells to a gel mass expanding to 15 percent greater than its original size, creating a sensation of fullness in the stomach. It helps eliminate unnecessary snacking--as the patient no longer feels hungry--thus reducing overall caloric intake. Best results have been seen in patients who take Lipozene in addition to eating a healthy diet and performing regular exercise.

Dosage

Dosage requirements for Lipozene vary depending on the amount of weight loss desired. Manufacturers recommend taking one capsule with 8 ounces of water before each meal for those wishing to lose only a few pounds. For those who have more to lose, it is recommended that two capsules with 8 ounces of water be taken 30 minutes before each meal. In order to reduce the risk of side effects from the sudden increase in fiber, it is recommended that patients begin with the lower dosage and gradually work up to the dosage that will work best for them.

Side Effects

As with any medication or supplement, Lipozene has side effects that must be considered. Common side effects include gas, bloating, nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps. More serious side effects have been reported, such as difficulty swallowing, severe or chronic diarrhea, blood sugar fluctuations and symptoms of allergic reaction including itching, wheezing and difficulty breathing.

Warnings

Before taking this or any other weight loss supplement, consult your doctor to be sure this is a good option for you.

Children should never take Lipozene without prior consent from their pediatrician.

Indications have been noted that if Lipozene is taken with some diabetes medications, possible drug interactions may occur resulting in blood sugar changes or other more serious complications.
