Test For Mrsa

MRSA, or the super bug as it is sometimes called is tested before a firm diagnosis is made. This is a simple painless procedure, which is essential if you are showing signs or symptoms of MRSA, a highly contagious staph infection.

Instructions

1. Examine your body if you find pus filled boil or skin abscess you will need to call your doctor and schedule an appointment. If you have symptoms of pneumonia, they also need to know this. Let the offices know what you have and they will schedule an appointment accordingly.

2. Arrive for your appointment on time and be prepared to show your doctor what you have found, and he will drain the boil or abscess and use a swab to get a sample of the pus for laboratory tests.

3. Allow your doctor or nurse to get a blood culture if they suspected sepsis or pneumonia as this is the only way the lab tests can be performed here. The blood test may be a bit painful, but it is the only way to check for MRSA in the blood stream.

4. Ask your doctor how soon to expect the results of this tests. A coagulase test will be performed, on your blood. They watch for clotting and then a culture is grown, this may take a few days so be patient. Follow your doctors’ advice if the diagnosis is MRSA, and educate yourself to keep others safe, as this is a highly contagious infection.
