Pak Fah Yeow is the Chinese name for White Flower Oil, developed in 1927 by Gan Geog Eng, of Singapore. White Flower Oil is a combination of the essential oils lavender, eucalyptus, wintergreen, and peppermint. Essential oils are concentrated oils extracted from plants or flowers, used for healing or scents. White Flower Oil also contains camphor and menthol and is popular in the Far East as a natural herbal pain reliever.
Basic Application
Apply two to three drops of Chinese White Flower Oil every two hours externally and massage into your skin. Reapply every two hours if necessary. A 1990 skin patch test in Hong Kong revealed Chinese White Flower Oil is safe to use externally on the skin.
Muscle Pain
Massage White Flower Oil gently into your muscles and joints to relieve pain temporarily. Have someone massage this oil on your back if you have a backache. Rub White Flower Oil on your bruises, sprains and arthritis for relief.
Headache and Neck Pain
Relieve your sinus headache quickly by applying one drop of White Flower Oil with a cotton swab under your nose. Hold the bottle of White flower Oil and inhale, or add three drops to a handkerchief and deeply inhale. Apply the oil on your temples, forehead or the top of your head using cotton balls, to help relieve your headache. Massage White Flower Oil into your neck, focusing on the areas with the most pain or strain.
Colds and Flu
Inhale White Flower Oil to clear your stuffy nose and chest from a cold or flu. Put a couple of drops on your hands, cup your hands, and breathe deeply. Place two or three drops onto a tissue, cotton ball or handkerchief and inhale.
Purchasing
Buy Chinese White Flower Oil (also called White Flower Analgesic Balm) inexpensively online or in some health food stores.
Warnings
Keep White Flower Oil away from children. A 2002 toxicology study in Hong Kong showed ingesting this oil, which contains methyl salicylate, can cause "severe, rapid-onset salicylate poisoning." If ingested, seek immediate medical help. Do not make a person throw up unless told to do so by poison control or a health care professional. Most people can recover from ingesting White Flower Oil if the salicylate can be neutralized in time. Methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) is the most poisonous (toxic) form of the salicylates.
Always use White Flower Oil externally on the skin.
Do not apply White Flower Oil to mucus areas, such as your mucus membranes, eyes, or cuts and wounds.
Consult with your doctor before applying it on children under the age of two.
