Healthy Choice Diets

Healthy Choice is a line of mostly frozen foods that are low in fat, cholesterol and calories and are ideal for weight loss. Along with low-fat frozen entrees, Healthy Choice offers soups, bread, "mixers" like sweet and sour chicken, and even desserts. While most nutritionists would not recommend a lifelong diet of eating nothing but Healthy Choice foods (they are, after all, processed), it could be a good way to start a sensible plan on your way to dropping a few pounds.

Breakfast

One drawback to eating nothing but Healthy Choice foods is the fact the company has yet to offer a true breakfast dish--unless you're open to eating Salisbury steak or slow-roasted turkey medallions for your first meal of the day. If you choose a Healthy Choice diet, the best breakfast option is whole grain or seven-grain bread. A protein shake or egg substitute would be a good addition.

Soup for Lunch

Healthy Choice has plenty to offer for people seeking quick, easily made meals later in the day. Lunch options include soups, such as chicken with rice or country vegetable. Many of the soups are available in microwavable bowls, while others are canned for larger meals. The microwavable bowls contain anywhere from 110 to 140 calories and one to three grams of fat per serving. A slice of whole grain bread (80 calories, one gram of fat) would be a natural supplement.

Mix It Up

If soup isn't your style, Healthy Choice has plenty of mixers, from chicken cacciatore to ziti and meat sauce. All are as easy to prepare as the soup for anyone with access to a microwave. The mixers aren't quite as low in calories and fat as the soup--for instance, the sweet hickory BBQ chicken is 370 calories and three grams of fat per package--but they include more protein and are more filling.

Dine In

Healthy Choice has a wide array of dinners, offering all-natural selections, complete meals, café steamers and a line of select entrées. The all-natural selections feature "pumpkin, asparagus, nine-grain pastas, and 100 percent extra virgin olive oil" in six vegetarian options, including Mediterranean Pasta and Pumpkin Squash Ravioli. The majority of these meals have anywhere from 180 to 260 calories and four to eight grams of fat per serving.

Supplementing

Following a Healthy Choice plan will indeed work when it comes to losing weight and is especially beneficial for people on the go. But as with any plan, it is important to supplement the diet with sensible non-Healthy Choice items. For instance, fresh fruit or vegetables should be added between meals, and rather than just eating a mixer or cup of Healthy Choice soup for dinner, dieters would be wise to supplement their meal with a serving of baked chicken breast or broiled salmon. And, as is the case with all diets, regular exercise will help Healthy Choice devotees shed pounds considerably quicker.
