Promote Creativity With Wall Color

Orange and yellow promote creativity.

Color is an important element of any room. Color can make you feel relaxed, energized, cozy or even creative. Using wall color to promote creativity could be useful in your workspace, home office, classroom or even a baby's bedroom. While different colors can affect each person differently, science, color theory and even spiritual practices suggest that most people respond similarly to colors.

Instructions

1. Use a color that's widely associated with creativity. In feng shui, orange is a yang (the masculine aspect of the yin-yang theory) color that provides enthusiasm, motivation and inspiration. The Hindu culture says creativity can be promoted by balancing the sacral chakra, which is located near the body's navel, through surrounding yourself with the color orange. Color Theory, designed by Johannes Itten, are the principles used to create harmony and balance using color. The theory says orange stimulates the mind and has an invigorating, creative effect.

2. Use tones of orange that appeal to your personal aesthetic. The color doesn't need to be bold or loud to produce a creative response. For example, you may favor a pale, creamy orange color over bright, pumpkin orange.

3. Paint your room a color that complements its size. If your room is small and you'd like to open it up, choose a lighter shade of orange or yellow such as butternut or golden tones. If the area is large and you'd like to create a warmer, cozier feeling, choose a rich, dark orange or gold color.

4. Visit your paint store to browse the available rainbow of paint options. Select paint samples in shades of orange and yellow that appeal to you. Try a variety of hues and shades from gold to peach to terra-cotta.

5. Bring your paint swatches home and hold them against your walls to see how they will look. Compare and contrast the shades. View the colors at various times of the day to determine how they will under both natural and artificial light.

6. Buy the paint of your choice.
