Toothache
The most frequent symptom of a root canal infection would be the presence of a toothache. It will most likely be an almost unrelenting pain that is fairly severe and often throbbing.
Sensitivity
This particular symptom isn't all that surprising, especially in light of the pain, but a person who is suffering from a root canal infection will typically experience a certain amount of sensitivity to temperature, both cold and hot.
Swelling
Many people will also suffer from some level of swelling to either the nearby gum or cheek. This swelling is usually accompanied by some tenderness.
Bad Breath
Depending on the severity of the infection, a person may begin to suffer from something that can only be described as bad breath. However, this is really from the tooth infection itself. Any abscess that may have formed could break open.
Stiffness
Sometimes, the pain from the root canal infection may be so severe that a person's neck may become stiff. This particular symptom will only be present with other symptoms. Just having a stiff neck doesn't indicate a root canal infection (or any other tooth infection) without any other symptoms.
