Conversational Hypnosis Definition

Conversational hypnosis.

Conversational hypnotic techniques induce trance slowly and subtly, using the guise of everyday chit-chat to gain influence over friends and family, or audiences and the general public. On the opposite end of the spectrum are formal, more explicit inductions.

Hypnosis Defined

Trance

According to Dr. John Kappas, founder of Hypnosis Motivation institute, hypnosis is the process of using language and nonverbal cues to bypass the critical factor of the conscious mind, allowing access to the subconscious mind.

Function

Politicians use conversational hypnosis.

Politicians, ministers, advertisers and public speakers of all kinds employ hypnotic techniques in their speech, gestures and even attire to gain trust and persuade the masses.

Misconceptions

Hypnosis is not sleep.

Movies and general perception conceive of hypnotic trance as a sleep-like state of unawareness. On the contrary, trance facilitates a heightened sense of conscious awareness. A good conversational hypnotist will give no indication that they are inducing trance.

Setting

You can use conversational hypnosis in many everyday situations.

Some hypnotherapists use conversational techniques to induce trance for therapeutic ends. Most commonly, however, subtle conversational cues used to anchor suggestions and ideas, such as Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), influence people outside the therapeutic setting.

How-to

Signs of trance

Conversational hypnotists understand the natural ebb and flow of conscious and subconscious. Learn to recognize the signs of trance: glazed eyes, slow breathing, eye movement and dry mouth.
