Home Remedy For An Asthma Attack

asthma

Asthma is a disease in which the airways in the lungs become constricted. In someone with asthma, the muscles tighten and the bronchial tubes become very small. This occurs when any foreign body enters the breathing passageways. This can be mucus, pollen or any other object. Asthma causes chest tightness, coughing, wheezing and an inability to take in air. The cases of asthma can range from very mild, showing no symptoms, to severe and causing death. There are several things you can do at home if you feel an asthma attack coming on.

Bananas

If you feel that you are having a severe asthma attack, a quick remedy is to get a ripe banana and heat it on the stove or in the microwave. Take the heated banana and sprinkle black pepper on it. This will temporarily open the air passageways and allow the pain from an attack to subside. This is not a long term cure but a quick treatment if someone is having problems breathing due to an asthma attack.

Tulsi Plant

The leaves of the Tulsi plant, also called holy basil, makes a good home remedy. Tulsi can be found in most Hindu homes. It can be purchased at most health food stores. Tulsi grows wild in the warm tropic regions and is considered to have many medicinal properties. Mix fresh honey with ground leaves of the Tulsi plant until you make a very thick paste. Eat the mixture when you have an attack and it will provide relief.

Roasted Grams

Roasted grams are an Iranian food that is an excellent source of protein. Night time is said to be the worst time of the day for asthma sufferers. Roasted grams can be eaten at night with a glass of milk. The grams will clear any congestion in the respiratory track and will help you sleep without fear of an attack. Grams can be taken at other times during the day for relief but provide the best benefits when taken before bed.
