Peroxide Water Mix For Cleaning Mold

You don't need to stock up on heavy, smelly chemicals to clean mold in your home. Instead, create your own peroxide-and-water mix to clean mold away and stop it from coming back.

Function

Remove hydrogen peroxide from your home using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water. Fill a spray bottle halfway with a 30 percent peroxide solution, and then fill it the rest of the way with water. Use this mixture to spray down the moldy area in your home. Wait an hour, and then spray the area down again. Wipe away any remaining mold with a sponge.

Prevention/Solution

Prevent mold from returning to problem areas by using a peroxide-and-water mix as maintenance cleaner. Using a solution of one part 35 percent peroxide to three parts water, spray down your shower or tub every week to stop mold from gaining a foothold in your home.

Considerations

Hydrogen peroxide that is labeled "food-grade" works well as a cleaning supply. If you have colored grout, do not use a peroxide-and-water mix to clean mold -- it can bleach out the color of the grout so the cleaned area will not match the rest of the bathroom. Instead, try using a mix of white vinegar and water in those areas.
