Homemade Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel has been used for many reasons, such as for burns, scrapes, cuts and rashes. The aloe vera plant grows easily in warm climates, and has many healing properties. It has antibiotic compounds that can not only help reduce pain, but also reduce inflammation.

What You Will Need

Making homemade aloe vera gel can be simple. You will first need an aloe vera plant, which can be bought in many stores and kept indoors in a warm climate, or can also be grown from a seed or cutting. You will also need 500 milligrams of powdered Vitamin C, as well as 400 IU of Vitamin E. Before using the cut leaves, as stated in the next section, be sure to wash them thoroughly with hot water.

Making the Gel

Take the outer leaf off of the aloe plant, and peel off the skin of the plant. Scoop the gel out with a small spoon, and put it into a blender. You will then add the vitamins according to how much aloe vera gel that is scooped out. For every quarter cup of gel collected, add the 500 mg of the Vitamin C and 400 IU of Vitamin E. Blend well, and scoop into a small, clean jar. This homemade gel will easily keep for months if stored in the refrigerator.

Tips for Making the Gel

When you peel the leaves, peel only one side of the leaf. Cut the small, spiky parts off as much as possible to avoid being jabbed. The vitamins, if they are not in powdered form already, may be crushed using the back of a spoon.

Aloe Vera Gel Uses

Aloe Vera gel has many uses. It is good for use on minor burns that can happen in the kitchen, and especially for sunburn. It can help take the itchiness and sting from a bug bite. Blisters can heal quicker when aloe vera gel is used, and many have used it to help rid themselves of stretch marks, scars, psoriasis and rosacea. It can be used a few times a day for these and more ailments.

Aloe vera gel may also be used as a soothing bath-time rub. When the gel is used on its own, it works well as a body scrub in the bath or shower. It has also been used to help fight wrinkles and other signs of aging on the face and hands.
