What Is Celebrex Prescribed For

Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) often used to treat pain, inflammation and stiffness. This drug targets the hormones that trigger this pain and inflammation. While Celebrex can pose risks to the cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems, the Food and Drug Administration has not discontinued its use because the benefits for some patients outweigh the risks. Celebrex treats a variety of health conditions.

Osteoarthritis

Celebrex eases the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis, a condition where cartilage breaks down in the joints.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

The swelling, pain and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease attacking the lining of the joints, are alleviated by Celebrex.

Severe Menstrual Pain

Uterine cramping and sharp menstrual pains not attributed to any underlying pre-existing condition can be assuaged by Celebrex.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

A chronic, inflammatory form of arthritis affecting the spine and pelvic area, akylosing spondylitis responds well to Celebrex's anti-inflammatory properties.

Familial Adenomatous Polyposis

Celebrex reduces the pain and inflammation of familial adenomatous polyposis, a genetic condition in which polyps develop in the rectum and colon.

Acute Pain

Pain experienced after a surgical or dental procedure can be reduced with Celebrex, although this treatment is not commonly prescribed.
