Find Discount Funeral Financing
Funerals can be expensive, once you factor in services, the burial plot, flowers and other items. It's an expense many people aren't ready for. Most funeral homes aren't allowed to offer discounts, but they can offer packages that will save you money.
Instructions
1. Plan ahead. Death shouldn't be a taboo subject. Talk about it with your loved ones. Know what they want and write those wishes down. This will prevent you from overspending because of emotional overload.
2. Know your rights. The Federal Trade Commission's "Funeral Rule" is in place to protect you when you're planning a funeral. It requires mortuaries to give you a price list before showing you any products. It also requires funeral homes to offer cost-effective alternatives.
3. Shop around for the best prices. The range of prices tends to be very wide and you can get ripped off if you're not careful. Making a few calls will be worthwhile. Remember, the cost of a funeral isn't indicative of how much you cared for the deceased.
4. Consider direct cremation. This mean there's no service or viewing. Instead, the body is quickly cremated. This service usually runs under $1,000. Then, hold your own memorial service in a place that was special to the deceased.
