Found in 1981, Swede-O Inc. has designed and produced a wide selection of ankle support, rehabilitation and preventative care products. Although Swede-O offers ankle braces that do not require lacing, several styles--Ankle Lok, Inner Lok 8, Tarsal Lok, Easy Lok and Trim Lok--utilize laces to provide tighter and easily adjustable support and stability for injured ankles and feet. Lacing your Swede-O ankle brace product requires little effort and is as simple to lace as a pair of sneakers.
Instructions
1. Put on one or two pairs of socks--preferably athletic socks--on your sprained or injured foot and/or ankle.
2. Slip the brace over the injured foot with the foot in a standing position (at 90 degrees to the ankle), but without actually standing on the foot.
3. Thread the lace into the right or left eyelet, across the tongue and through the opposite eyelet. Hold up both ends of the lace and adjust to equal length as you would if lacing a sneaker.
4. Cross-lace the ends into the next set of eyelets by taking one lace end, threading it through the eyelet from the inside of the eyelet (side near the tongue) to the outside (side facing away from the brace), then crossing over it with the opposite lace end to thread through the opposite eyelet.
5. Adjust the lace ends to equal length, then tighten to a comfortable fit.
6. Continue cross-lacing the ends and threading through the eyelets and through the middle eyelets until you reach the top of the brace.
7. Reposition the laces with your fingers. Repeat Step 5 to tighten the laces between the first two pairs of eyelets, as they may have loosened. Continue tightening lightly up the brace until you reach the lace between the middle eyelets. Tighten the lace as much as possible in this area--pull the eyelets as close as possible without causing pain or discomfort--to give your ankle support. Continue tightening from that point up the brace until your reach the last eyelets at the top, tighten to a comfortable fit and tie the lace ends into a bow.
