Cure A Toothache

Although some toothaches need professional treatment, many can be treated through home remedies. Many herbs and vegetables have strong antiseptic properties that can be used to treat toothaches and, potentially, alleviate the need for dental care. When all else fails, however, be sure to go to the dentist.

Instructions

1. Use an antiseptic rinse regularly and brush your teeth twice a day. This will help prevent toothaches in the first place, and will alleviate minor toothaches as well.

2. Apply garlic and salt to the tooth. Mash a clove of garlic together with a pinch of rock salt and apply the paste to the site of the toothache. Garlic has allicin, a powerful antibacterial compound. This is thought to help stop the bacteria which cause toothache.

3. Chew a clove of garlic every morning to continue to strengthen the effected tooth.

4. Get Orajel or a similar tooth desensitizing product. This will not treat the cause of the toothache, but it will temporarily numb it.

5. Take a painkiller. Aspirin, Tylenol, Acetaminophen, and any other common pain killer will have some effect on your toothache.

6. Rub clove oil on the effected tooth and the gum nearby. Although clove oil will not treat the underlying cause of a toothache, it does have a numbing effect that will provide temporary relief. Alternately, you can chew actual cloves.

7. Apply asafoetida mixed with lemon juice to the tooth. Mix powdered asafoetida with enough lemon juice to make a paste. Use a q-tip to apply the paste to the tooth.

8. Chew onion to treat the toothache. Chew a raw piece of onion with the effected tooth for several minutes. Spit out the onion. Onions are bactericidal, so chewing one will help kill the bacteria that cause tooth decay.

9. Go to the dentist. If none of the above remedies works, or the toothache gets worse, you may need professional dental treatment.
