Become A Biofeedback Therapist

A biofeedback therapist teaches patients relax their bodies by controlling involuntary things such as heart rate and muscle tension using biofeedback. Biofeedback has helped people with heart conditions and migraine headaches. Biofeedback uses electrodes to monitor bodily processes, allowing people to see exactly relax to change their bodily processes.

Instructions

1. Take a training seminar. You need to know work biofeedback machines, use the electrodes and teach people to relax. Biofeedback Resources International offers training seminars, among other organizations.

2. Consider getting certified as a biofeedback therapist or practitioner. While certification is not required in any state, it is highly recommended. The Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA) offers various certifications. Certification includes taking a training seminar, passing a test, completing contact hours with a BCIA approved mentor and paying certification fees.

3. Get a license or credentialing to practice in a health care field, depending on the state you live in. Work under the supervision of a health care practitioner with a license if you elect to postpone becoming a licensed therapist or practitioner.

4. Consider taking anatomy, psychology and counseling classes, since biofeedback is a health related field. Many biofeedback therapists are already in a health field and want to expand their credentials. Biofeedback practitioners are medical doctors, psychologists and specially trained counselors.
