The Side Effects Of Prevident 5000

Prevident 5000 is available as a fluoride mouth rinse and as toothpaste. Dentists mainly prescribe it for patients whose water does not have enough fluoride to strengthen tooth enamel and help prevent cavities. A few side effects are possible.


Teeth Discoloration


The most likely side effect of Prevident 5000 will only happen if the person uses too much of it, or uses it while drinking fluoridated water. This side effect is discolored teeth or mottling of the enamel, which can be caused by too much fluoride.


Mouth Irritation


Prevident 5000 also can cause side effects of mouth or gum irritation. If this occurs, the patient should ask the dentist if discontinuing use is advised.








Avoid Swallowing Prevident


People should avoid swallowing Prevident 5000, as this can cause side effects of stomach upset, headache and weakness.








Overdose


People who swallow too much Prevident 5000 can experience overdose reactions such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, muscle stiffness and pain, and skin numbness or tingling. Large overdoses can cause seizures and even death.


Allergic Reaction


Rarely, some people may have an allergic reaction to Prevident 5000. Signs are rash or hives, difficulty breathing, throat closing and swelling of the face, lips and tongue.
