Cope With Hot Flashes

A dip in the production of female hormones during menopause causes the hypothalamus in our brain, the temperature regulator of our body, to go out of balance. This imbalance causes the blood vessels to constrict and expand in an irregular manner generating a heated, flush sensation on the skin called hot flashes. Here are ways to cope with hot flashes during menopause.

Instructions

1. Exercise for at least 30 minutes every day to increase endorphin levels in your blood. This hormone is naturally reduced in the system during menopause. Exercise also limits the frequency and duration of hot flashes.

2. Dress in breathable materials like cotton to diffuse heat and allow air circulation on the skin surface. Use cotton sheets on bed while sleeping. Increase your water intake to cool the body.

3. Reduce the intake of spicy food and hot beverages that tend to increase the body temperature. Remember to supplement your diet with vitamin E, B and C along with magnesium, as these vital nutrients are lost due to excessive sweating.

4. Relax your body with deep breathing exercises to prevent stress stimulated hyperventilation. Use aromatic scents and essential oils such as lavender, ylang ylang, vanilla, rose and sage to calm your senses.

5. Keep cool by running the AC and fan. Use moist wipes frequently during the day to moisturize your skin.
