Live With Ibs

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can take time to diagnose; there are no tests to confirm the condition, only tests that tell the doctor what the symptoms don't indicate. Once an irritable bowel has been diagnosed, you can manage the symptoms by following these steps.

Instructions

1. Reduce stress. Stress can trigger IBS. Whether you are suffering from IBS with constipation or with diarrhea, stress can cause either symptom to present.

2. Change your diet. If you suffer from constipation, you may want to add more fiber into your diet. If you are living with diarrhea, then consider cutting down on your dairy intake. Regulate your caffeine intake, regardless of which symptoms you have; caffeine agitates the stomach lining and causes cramping. The avoidance of beans, cabbage, uncooked broccoli and cauliflower helps prevent gas and bloat.

3. Exercise. Getting daily exercise of any sort relieves tension and regulates the digestive tract; all you need is an activity as simple as a brisk walk or short jog.

4. Keep a journal detailing your symptoms. Keeping track of your symptoms will help you to understand what triggers the symptoms so you know how better to control them in the future.

5. Update your health care professional regularly about your symptoms. Let them know if anything changes or gets worse. Living with IBS isn't easy and is something that should be done with the guidance of your doctor or physician.
