Ways To Whiten Teeth With Athome Products

You have items in your home that you probably didn't know could be used as teeth whiteners. As more and more people seek whiter smiles, teeth whitening products continue to grow in number and variety. But you don't have to buy one of these products to get the white teeth you yearn for; there are some inexpensive items you already have in your home that could prove effective in whitening teeth. While the best teeth whitening methods are available only in a dentist's office, at-home treatment also can provide noticeable results.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has many uses in the home. One use is for scrubbing stains from the teeth. This is really all that teeth whiteners do--they remove stains left by food debris, wine, coffee, tea, smoking and other things. Baking soda makes a good paste when water is added to it. Dip your toothbrush in the mixture and apply it to your teeth every day. You can get faster results if you use hydrogen peroxide with the baking soda.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can disinfect and clean. It also is a bleach used in products such as hair coloring kits and most teeth whiteners. In stronger concentrations, hydrogen peroxide can bleach paper. In lower concentrations, it is approved for human use both internally and externally by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The hydrogen peroxide you have in a dark bottle at home is about 3 percent solution, but it is still strong enough to clean the surface of the teeth. Pour a little peroxide in a cup, dip in your toothbrush and then apply the peroxide to the teeth a few times. Do this every day for best results. In time, you will notice that your teeth are whiter.

Lemons

A few home-remedy websites recommend using lemons to whiten the teeth. You can peel a lemon and then rub the rind against your teeth a few times. An easier method is to buy a bottle of lemon juice. With your toothbrush, apply the lemon juice to the teeth. Lemons have citric acid, and this acid can remove surface stains from the teeth. It is a natural and inexpensive way to whiten your teeth.

White Vinegar

White vinegar contains ascetic acid. This acid can clean the surface enamel of the teeth. It works in a similar way to lemon juice. It is a homemade remedy that often is recommended by home-remedy or natural treatment websites. Pour a small amount of vinegar in a cup and use your toothbrush to apply it to your teeth. Results will not be dramatic, but there will be signs of improvement in a few weeks if you are consistent with your applications.
