Healing Properties Of Neem Oil

The neem tree and neem oil heals a variety of conditions.

Neem oil is a vegetable oil that comes from the seed kernels of the neem tree. The neem tree and neem oil have many benefits and uses. According to the Neem Foundation, the neem tree is known as the "village pharmacy." Neem oil is widely-recognized in India for its healing properties and is highly regarded for its medicinal qualities.

Skin Healing Properties

Neem oil is a popular cure for skin conditions such as hives, eczema, psoriasis and acne. Massaging a mixture of neem oil with a carrier oil, like grape seed oil, directly onto the skin is an effective way to receive its healing benefits. Its healing abilities are attributed to the plant's anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Neem oil contains an aspirin-like compound that helps with acne conditions by ridding the skin of acne-causing bacteria. It also helps reduce redness and inflammation.

Fungal Healing Properties

Neem oil has been used to treat and heal fungal infections, such as Athlete's foot, ringworm and nail fungus. Neem oil contains two bio-active compounds, nimbidin and gedunin, that have anti-fungal properties and can effectively kill fungus. Using a few drops of neem oil, with grape seed oil as a base, can heal and prevent future fungal infections.

Hair and Scalp Healing Properties

Neem oil has been used as a treatment for dandruff, hair loss and head lice. Neem oil acts as a natural insect and pest repellent. It not only kills head lice, but its emollient properties soothes, nourishes and protects against an itchy, dry and flaky scalp. The use of neem oil with grape seed oil, or any other carrier oil, as a hot-oil treatment can help reduce shedding and promote thick, shiny and healthy hair.
