Prevent Russellsilver Syndrome

Russell-Silver Syndrome is one of the few treatable forms of primordial dwarfism. It occurs in about one out of every 75,000 births. Right now there is no known way to prevent Russell-Silver Syndrome as the exact cause is not known. However, there are ways to overcome some of the side effects of this growth disorder.

Instructions

1. Ensure the Russell-Silver Syndrome patient is getting enough calories each day to help them grow. Some RSS patients have a hard time feeding orally when first born, so they may need to be fed through a tube until they are able to eat food on their own.

2. Consider utilizing growth hormone therapy to supplement the Russell-Silver Syndrome patient's natural growth hormones. This type of therapy can help RSS patients to "catch up" in terms of growth and development. If used, growth hormones will be injected daily from the time the patient is two years of age until they have completed puberty.

3. Correct limb length differences using scoliosis physiotherapy. If this doesn't work, or if the difference is severe, then corrective surgery can be used instead. If surgery is not an option, then the RSS patient can simply use raises or lifts in their shoes to help balance their limb lengths.
