Prevent Heat Rash

The heat of summer can get pretty unbearable at times and it can wreak havoc on your skin. Sunburns are not the only problem you may encounter in this weather, heat rashes can be equally if not more painful. By following the tips below you may be able to decrease your chances of getting a heat rash.

Instructions

Prevent Heat Rash

1. Dust your body with cornstarch. The cornstarch will absorb the moisture on your body and leave it dry. Make sure to get into any crevices. We tend to sweat more in those areas. Do not use talcum powder, it can irritate your lungs.

2. Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing. Cotton is the preferred fabric. Wearing tight-fitting clothing traps heat and causes you to sweat. By wearing loose clothing you're allow more air to get to your skin which will help keep you dry.

3. Keep cool. If at all possible, stay indoors in air conditioned rooms. If you do not have air conditioning then a fan will do nicely. When outside you should opt to stay in a well- shaded area. If you must go outside, then avoid being out during the hottest time of day which is the afternoon.

4. Take a cool shower or bath and change your clothes if they become damp. The shower helps cool your body down and the change of clothes keeps you dry. Make sure to dry off thoroughly after your shower or bath.

5. Drink plenty of water. Water helps to keep your body from overheating. Drink about six to eight glasses a day, more if you're active. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine, they dehydrate your body.
