Purple fluorite can assist with deepening meditation skills.
Robert Simmons, co-author of "The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach," describes fluorite as a "psychic vacuum cleaner clearing . . . cluttered thoughts, negativity and any sort of astral hangers on." Fluorite comes in different colors: yellow, blue, black, pink, green and purple. There are also multicolored fluorite stones. Each color variation has slightly different properties in addition to the basic metaphysical benefits all fluorite carries.
Physical
Fluorite stones are comprised of calcium fluoride. Its mineral composition may account for its reputation as a healer for bone disorders and ailments of the gums and teeth. Judy Hall, author of "The Crystal Bible," states that purple fluorite has especially strong healing properties in these areas. Many metaphysical healers use purple fluorite to reduce arthritis pain.
Mental
Hall observes that purple fluorite, in common with most other varieties of the mineral, helps correct disorganization. Naisha Ahsian, one of the co-authors of "The Book of Stones," says that all fluorite helps with "balancing the brain." Simmons connects fluorite to the element of air and the Swords tarot suite, strengthening the ability to make sound decisions. He compares fluorite to "the sword of intelligence cutting through the uncertainties of potential with the power of choice." Ashian describes purple fluorite as having a particularly powerful ability to enhance mental faculties.
Emotional
Metaphysical healers who use stones say the mentally clarifying powers of fluorite have a healing effect on the emotions. People who feel confused, lost or lacking in purpose find a sense of clarity and a more sharply defined inner identity. Feelings of fear about the future or of being at the mercy of emotional tides gradually subside through engagement with fluorite.
Spiritual
Perhaps because its color is the same as that of the crown chakra, relating to a sense of connection to the divine, purple fluorite fosters the ability to meditate. It also enhances the third eye, permitting someone who uses the stone to amplify their psychic skills. In "The Book of Stones," purple fluorite is described as "ideal for purification and access of the mind to domains of spirit."
