Natural Remedy For Cushings Disease

Cushing's diseases causes the pituitary gland to release too much adrenocorticotropic hormone, according to the U.S. Library of Medicine. This disease occurs when there is a tumor on the pituitary gland, which is located at the base of the brain. Symptoms of Cushing's Disease may include acne, extra fat on the back of the neck, easily bruising, increase in urination, unexplained stretch marks on the abdomen and weakness. Traditional treatments focus on surgically removing the tumor and radiation treatments, however, natural remedies may also provide benefit.

Dietary Changes

Broccoli, which contains sulforaphane and indole-30-carbion, may have anti-cancer properties, according to the American Cancer Society. These properties are believed to safeguard against future tumors and may even kill cancer cells.

Shiitake mushrooms, which are native to Asia, may also have anti-tumor benefits, according to the American Cancer Society. Mushrooms contain the compound lentinan, which is believed to slow and stop tumor growth. These mushrooms can be purchased at most grocery stores, or can be found in supplement form.

Acupressure

Acupressure is a type of body work that reduces symptoms by massaging pressure points on the body. Unlike its sister therapy, acupuncture, this method doesn't use needles, focusing instead on "acupoints" in the body. Bodywork, such as massage, may also relieve symptoms associated with Cushing's disease.

Herbal Remedies

Licorice root is an ancient Chinese remedy that may interfere with tumor formation, according to the American Cancer Society. This supplement contains licocoumarone and glabridin, which may stop the growth of tumor masses.

Supplements such as ginseng and flaxseed may also have similar benefits. Before taking any supplement, however, make sure to speak with your doctor. Dietary supplements have the potential to interfere with prescription medications and radiation treatments.

When to Call a Doctor
