Brushing your teeth freshens your breath.
Everyone has bad breath occasionally. The foods you eat, smoking tobacco, your dental health and conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease can all affect the way your breath smells. Frequent occurrences of bad breath, also known as chronic bad breath or halitosis, can affect your social and professional life. To eliminate bad breath and to improve the quality of your life, there are slight adjustments you can make to your daily oral health care routine.
Instructions
1. Brush your teeth after eating a meal. Brushing freshens your breath and removes plaque and food particles that can contribute to bad breath. Pack a toothbrush and toothpaste when leaving the house for the day. Use a fluoride toothpaste and brush your teeth, gums and tongue for 2 minutes.
2. Promote saliva flow throughout the day. Chew sugar-free chewing gum sweetened with xylitol, because it stimulates the saliva flow in your mouth and eliminates and prevents bacteria build up. Chew a mint-flavored gum for pleasant breath or opt for a cinnamon-flavored gum. According to WebMD, cinnamon-flavored gum reduces bacteria in your mouth.
3. Drink water throughout the day or swish it around in your mouth after eating. Water rinses your mouth and keeps bacteria in your mouth at a minimum.
4. Consume some carbohydrates if you are on a low-carbohydrate diet to eliminate bad breath. Low-carbohydrate diets can cause bad breath because your body enters a state of ketosis where it burns protein for energy instead of carbohydrates. The release of ketones during this burning process can cause bad breath.
5. Gargle with an antiseptic mouthwash. Mouthwash temporarily freshens your breath and eliminates bacteria. Use a nonalcoholic mouthwash because the alcohol in mouthwash can dry out your mouth, making it a breathing ground for bacteria that cause bad breath.
6. Chew on a parsley or mint leaf after eating because these instantly freshen your breath.
7. Carry mouth spray with you to freshen your breath while on the go. Mouth spray freshens your breath, restores oral pH and moisturizes your mouth.
