A 2010 survey by the Conference Research Group revealed that as many as 55 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with their jobs. Job dissatisfaction can lead to high employee turnover, non-attendance and losses in productivity. There are a wide variety of strategies and methods people who are dissatisfied with their jobs can take to both deal with their current professional situation and keep a positive future outlook.
Be Grateful
As difficult as a current job situation might be, consider the alternatives. In April 2010, 9.7 percent of American workers were unemployed. So while a miserable job may be the pits, it is almost certainly better than not having one at all. Gratitude doesn't mean complacency in the face of the status quo but rather recognition that all work is valuable. Avoid complaining to coworkers and friends as that can only exacerbate the situation and foster further negativity. Instead, try to refocus on aspects of your career you used to regard positively.
Go On the Hunt
While dissatisfied workers often find it difficult to get through the day or week, they do still have the luxury of collecting a regular paycheck and enjoying a standard of living they've become accustomed to. Those who are unemployed do not have that luxury. This is why the best time to hunt for a new job is while you're gainfully employed. Employees, however, must refrain from using the equipment or resources of their current employers in their job search and conduct the search on their own time. Utilizing company resources to research job vacancies is considered highly unethical and could result in premature termination.
Stay Positive
Disgruntled and dissatisfied workers need to pay extra attention to their physical and mental health. A sound diet, regular exercise and enough quality sleep can contribute tremendously to one's positive well-being. Dedicating ample time to enjoy activities outside of the workplace can go a long way in bolstering attitude as well. Life is made up of a patchwork of relationships and responsibilities that occur outside professional realms. What a person does for a living is only one facet of an individual.
