Learn Treat Sciatic Nerve Pain (Sciatica) with Herbal Remedies
Sciatic nerve pain can be alleviated with a number of herbal remedies. Sciatica is a condition caused by a "pinched nerve" or compression of the sciatic nerve (See Resource #1 below). Read on to learn use herbal remedies as a sciatica treatment.
Instructions
1. Place a hot, moist herbal pack over the area by sciatic nerve pain, which will increase blood circulation and help alleviate the pain from the pinched nerve. Make your own hot pack by filling a small, cotton sack with crushed flax seed or mustard seeds. Soak the sack in hot water for ten minutes before applying it.
NOTE: If using mustard seeds in topical herbal remedies for sciatic nerve pain relief, do not leave a mustard seed pack on for longer than 10 minutes, as this will cause skin irritation
2. Drink garlic milk to reduce the inflammation associated with sciatica (pinched nerve). Crush two raw cloves of garlic and stir this into 1/4 cup of milk. Drink the garlic milk twice a day as a sciatica treatment.
3. Soak in a hot herbal bath brewed from stinging nettle to relieve acute sciatic nerve pain. Steep 4 cups of stinging nettle herb in cold water for 12 hours. Warm up the mixture, strain and add it to a hot bath. Soak in the tub, leaving your chest above water, for twenty minutes. Wrap yourself in a cotton towel or cotton terry cloth without drying yourself off. Lie in bed for an hour and let your body sweat
4. Use chamomile to treat sciatica. This herb has a calming, healing effect on smooth muscle tissue. Drink a cup of chamomile herbal tea two to three times a day. Alternatively, mix chamomile essential oil with a carrier oil such as almond or jojoba and apply this to the affected area.
5. Prepare an herbal juice from made from one tablespoon each of fresh horsetail, borage, yarrow and celery juice, which will help to support the adrenal glands and soothe the nerves. You can prepare this with a juicer. Drink daily.
6. Relieve sciatic nerve pain using mustard oil and garlic (See Resource below). Chop up 3 to 4 cloves of garlic into 50 grams of mustard oil. After the garlic has turned reddish let it cool and then massage the cloves with the oil on the area affected by nerve pain.
